Bear’s Restaurant:
A Culinary Legend in Covington, Louisiana
Nestled in the heart of Covington, Bear’s Restaurant has been
a cherished local landmark and staple in the community, serving
up hearty, delicious poboys since 1990. As a matter of fact, Bear’s
Restaurant owner Josh Watson and the Watson family has a long
history in the restaurant business that dates back to the 1950’s when
Josh’s grandparents and parents ran a restaurant called The White
House in Bucktown, Louisiana where the basis for their famous roast
beef poboy recipe began. The family also ran a nearby stand called
Big Bears Snoballs at the same time. In 1977, after The White House
restaurant burned down Ronald Watson brought that old stand across
the lake to Mandeville on the causeway. The stand became the new
Big Bear’s in Old Mandeville which served take-out orders of their
poboys. In 1990, the whole business migrated again to Covington
where it’s present location is now called Bear’s Restaurant.
Through all of these years Bear’s Restaurant has become
famous in the local community for their reputation of serving some of
the best poboys in town. They were honored with being voted “Best
Poboys” in 2018 and in 2022 in Covington. They roast their own beef
for their super delicious roast beef poboys that are served with gravy
and they are loved by many locals and out-of-towners alike. Bear’s
Restaurant also serves a large selection of other delicious poboys and
sandwiches along with fries and desserts. Bear’s menu reflects the rich
culinary heritage of Louisiana. Because of their commitment to serving
delicious, quality food and service, Bear’s has developed a loyal
customer base. Bears Restaurant is very honored and thankful for the
many loyal patrons in the community that have been faithful customers
coming in for their delicious poboys
and friendly atmosphere
throughout the years and they look
forward to serving the community
for many more years to come.
